In her interview, Sarah Akbar takes us to the beginning of her childhood in Magwa’a and recalls her fond memories of the oil fields. She recollects times that were filled with friendships, academic excellence, and the closeness of the Kuwaiti society. She notes that the beginning of her love of knowledge was with her motivation to learn to read and taking English lessons with her neighbor.

Building off her love for academia, she reflects on her life as an engineering student at Kuwait University. As she reflects on her early career at Kuwait Oil Company, she retells her story of being the first woman to work in the oil fields and recounts her first day at her dream job. She revisits her time during the invasion by giving insight on both personal efforts of aiding the people of Kuwait and professional ones as an active advocate for Kuwait during her time as an employee of Kuwait Oil Company. She also contributed great efforts on the national recuperation of closing the oil wells that were affected during the invasion.

She ends her interview by commenting on her ventures after working at Kuwait Oil Company and her experience building Kuwait Energy. Looking to the future and going back to her love of learning, she notes her consideration of building on her educational career with another degree. She leaves us with words of empowerment and reminds women of the value of being active in our society to strive for change.
